Pumkin Chunkin- building a giant slingshot!?
for those of you who dont know what it is, it is a competition of home-made catapults, slingshots and air cannons by shooting small pumpkins. my school has these competitions every year and i am required to participate this year. i am planning on buildidng a slingshot in the shape of a giant crossbow. the problem is that we have a $75 budget and i need some help. first i need to figure out how to make the front, which needs to be strong but flexible so it slightly bends but does not snap when the cord is pulled back. i also need suggestions for what kind of mechanism and cord to use. i was thinking bungee cord but i dont know how expensive that is. oh, and the mechanism has to involve some kind of human action to set and trigger (no motors or hamster wheels). im sorry its so long but i would appreciate any and all help i can get, i need this done very very soon!! thank you
the crossbow seems pretty hard to do for $75 without some free materials to help you out, but maybe you can do it. the “crossbow” is also called a ballista or a siege engine.
